A woman has been arrested as part of the investigation into the murder of a man in Cork city last year.

Timmy Hourihane was found unconscious close to his burning tent in the city last October.

The woman, who was in her 30s, had her period of detention extended just after 8pm.

She can be held for up to a total of 24 hours before she has to be released or charged.

The woman is the third person to be arrested as part of the investigation into the murder of Mr Hourihane.

Mr Hourihane, who was originally from the Sheep's Head peninsula in west Cork, was found in a serious condition outside his burning tent on Mardyke Walk.

He died a short time later at Cork University Hospital.

The father of one had been homeless and living in the tent on the green area near Cork city centre for some time.
