Gardaí in Cork have spoken with two men in connection with an attack on a 23-year-old man who was doused in petrol and set alight.
The two men presented themselves at Mayfield Garda Station yesterday and spoke to gardaí investigating the attack on the the father-of-three at his home in Lotamore, Mayfield, in the early hours of Monday morning.
The men, who are from the southside of the Cork city, were not arrested but spoke voluntarily with gardaí for several hours.
The victim was with his girlfriend when three men entered the house and attacked him with metal bars and a machete before dousing him with petrol and set him alight.
He remains in a serious condition in hospital with life changing injuries.
The three men fled the scene in a black Ford Mondeo car and a Citroën Berlingo van which gardaí later found on the southside of the city.
Gardaí said two men were "helping them with the inquiries" and investigations are continuing.
