A baby boy has died following a road traffic collision in Cappamore, Co Limerick. 

The incident happened at around 2pm in the Knocknacarrga area.

The little boy was taken by helicopter to University Hospital Limerick in a serious condition but later died.

A woman in her early 20s, who was driving one of the two cars involved in the collision, was also taken to UHL with serious head injuries. Gardaí say that she remains in a serious condition. 

A woman in her late 20s, who was driving the other car, was also taken to hospital as a precaution.

The road was closed for a technical examination but has since reopened.

Gardaí have appealed to anyone who witnessed the crash, particularly anyone who may have dashcam footage, to contact Bruff Garda Station on 061 382947 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
