A county councillor from Kerry, his brother and a third man have gone on trial at the district court in Kenmare charged with assault causing harm to another man in the town, three days after Christmas 2017.
Jackie Healy-Rae, his brother Kevin and Malachy Scannell all deny the charges against them.
The court was told by counsel for the three men that one of them, Mr Scannell of Inchinacoosh, Kilgravan, Co Kerry claims he had no involvement whatsoever in the incident.
The court was also told that the Healy-Rae brothers of Sandymount, Kilgravan, Co Kerry would claim that they were acting in self-defence in response to an unprovoked attack.
After hearing from four prosecution witnesses, Judge David Watters adjourned the case for mention at Tralee District Court on 25 September.
At that stage a date will be set to hear from the remaining witnesses and to conclude the trial.
