A woman in her 80s who was missing overnight after going walking in the grounds of Glenstal Abbey in Co Limerick has been found safe and well.
The alarm was raised yesterday evening when the woman, who had set out for a walk from the coffee shop at Glenstall Abbey, did not return.
Teams from South Eastern Mountain Rescue, Nenagh Ormond Search Unit, Limerick Land Search, the Irish Search Dogs and gardaí searched the grounds of Glenstal up to 3am without locating the woman.
The Shannon-based rescue helicopter was also called in to assist.
CCTV footage from the abbey was also examined to determine which direction the woman took.
The search resumed early this morning and the search dogs located the woman’s handbag.
The woman was found sitting down in farmland well beyond the Abbey lands shortly after 10.30am.
It appears she may have become disoriented and lost her way from the Glenstal grounds.
She was physically unharmed, but was brought to hospital in Limerick for a check up.
