A man in his 80s has died following a house fire in Co Limerick.
The man has been named as Seamus Houlihan.
Mr Houlihan was a Labour city councillor in the late 1990s.
The alarm was raised at around 2am when Mr Houlihan's son returned home and discovered the blaze at the property in Keyes Park in the city.
The victim was in an upstairs room and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The scene has been preserved for a technical examination.
Gardaí said the fire is not being treated as suspicious.
