Water supply to thousands of homes in north Kerry has been disrupted today after a pump at a regional water treatment plant failed.

The homes affected are in Listowel, Tarbert, Moyvane, Knockanure, Lisselton, Finuge and Lixnaw.

Irish Water has deployed water tankers in the region to ensure water is available to householders.

The pump failure occurred in the treatment plant in Listowel last night and water supply to homes was gradually lost.

Work to repair it has been ongoing throughout the day but Irish Water has not yet said when they expect normal supply to resume.

Replacement parts are being made in Mallow and engineers will continue to work into the night to carry out this complex repair, said Irish Water.
