Air accident investigators have started removing the wreckage of the light aircraft which crashed near Dungarvan yesterday afternoon.
David Ryan, who was 84 years old and from St Albans Park in Dublin, died when his aircraft crashed into trees around 20 minutes after taking off from Waterford Airport.
The plane took off from Waterford Airport shortly before 4pm and crashed into trees in a field around 5km from Dungarvan.
He was the only person in the plane and nobody else was injured in the incident.
The cause of the crash is not yet known. However, it is understood Mr Ryan issued a mayday call shortly before the accident.
