Gardaí have arrested five men in connection with a fatal attack in Co Kildare last month.

Dylan McCarthy, 29, from Kilmallock, Co Limerick died in hospital after he was attacked outside a pub in Monasterevin at around 12.30am on 21 August.

His father was also attacked and taken to hospital. They had been out celebrating a family event.

The five men, who are aged in their 20s, are being questioned at different garda stations in Co Kildare.

They are being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act and can be held for up to 24 hours.

The arrests bring to eight the number of people detained and questioned in connection with the fatal assault.
