Gardaí in Drogheda are investigating how a baby in a critical condition in hospital sustained her injuries.

The nine-week-old baby girl was rushed to Children's Health Ireland at Temple Street in Dublin on Tuesday.

It is understood she had serious injuries to her body and head.

A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána said they are investigating all the circumstances which led to the baby being admitted to Temple Street Children's hospital.

A case conference was held at Drogheda garda station this morning as part of an investigation.

Tulsa has been notified and in a statement to RTÉ News, it said it would not be appropriate to comment "while all the facts are not known".

It said: "Any trauma or injury to a child is very difficult for the family and community.

"When a child or family enters into a relationship with a public service such as Tusla they are entitled to expect that information generated in that relationship is treated in confidence and remains private.

"This is critically important in the subject matters which Tusla is involved," it added.
