Cannabis with an estimated value of more than €1.5 million has been seized from a trailer at Rosslare Port.

The drugs were found when Revenue officers and gardaí searched an unaccompanied trailer that had arrived on a ferry from Cherbourg in France.

The search was carried out as a result of "routine profiling," according to a Revenue spokesperson.

During the operation, officers seized about 77kgs of herbal cannabis.

The operation was part of Revenue's ongoing work targeting drug smuggling.

Investigations into the seizure are ongoing.
