A man has been arrested following the death of another man in a stabbing incident in Kilkenny.

Emergency services were called to the scene on Hebron Road in the city at around 12.45pm, where a man in his 40s was discovered with serious injuries.

He was taken to St Luke's Hospital in Kilkenny, but was later pronounced dead.

The Office of the State Pathologist has been notified and a post-mortem examination will be carried out.

The scene on Hebron Road has been preserved for a forensic examination.

A man, aged in his late 20s, was arrested at the scene and is being held at Kilkenny Garda Station.

Gardaí are appealing to any witnesses, particularly anyone who was on Hebron Road between 12.30pm and 1pm, including road users who may have dash-cam footage, to contact Kilkenny Garda Station on 056 777 5000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any garda station.
