A man in his 30s is in a serious condition after he was injured in a stabbing in Co Kildare yesterday evening. 

Gardaí were called to Thomas Street in Newbridge at around 7.30pm and found the man with an apparent stab wound. 

He was treated at the scene before being taken to St James's Hospital in Dublin, where he is said to be in a serious but stable condition. 

A man, also in his 30s, was arrested in Newbridge in connection with the incident and is being held at Newbridge Garda Station. 

The scene has been preserved and a forensic examination will be carried out this morning. 

Gardaí are appealing to any witnesses, particularly anyone with camera footage (including dashcam) from the Main Street-Thomas Street area of Newbridge, to contact Newbridge Garda Station on 045 431 212, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
