Three men have been arrested as part of an ongoing garda investigation into organised crime in the southeast.

Detectives found a firearm and more than 40 rounds of ammunition after they intercepted and searched a car in the Slieverue area of south Kilkenny.

Two men in their 20s and another in his 30s were arrested at the scene and brought to garda stations in Waterford city and Thomastown in Co Kilkenny, under section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.

Follow-up searches were carried out in Waterford city, where €33,000 in cash was found, and at a house in south Kilkenny where what is believed to be cocaine worth €35,000 was discovered.

A garda spokesman said investigations are ongoing.
