A boil water notice remains in place for all customers on the Castlepollard water supply in Co Westmeath.

The notice on the Castlepollard high level public water supply was put into place on 31 December as a precaution, following a mechanical failure at the treatment plant.

As a result, the disinfection process was compromised.

The boil water notice affects around 1,444 people. The areas affected are: Ballymanus, Hilltown, Slieveboy, Loughpark, Fore, Martinstown, Glenidan, Cummerstown, Collinstown, Ranahan and the surrounding areas.

Irish Water and Westmeath County Council said they are working to resolve the issue.

In the meantime, all customers of this supply are being advised to boil water before use until further notice.
