A woman in her 80s has died in a house fire in Co Wexford.

The alarm was raised at about 6.30am at a house in Davidstown, close to Clonroche, between Enniscorthy and New Ross.

Emergency services, including a number of fire engines from Wexford Fire Service as well as gardaí and ambulance units attended the scene, which was a rural house in the townland of Ballyeden. 

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

A man in his 40s who was also in the house at the time was taken to Wexford General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Gardaí in Enniscorthy are investigating all of the circumstances surrounding the fire but it is not thought to be suspicious.

The scene of the incident has been preserved by gardaí to allow a forensic examination to take place.
