Up to 14,000 litres of illicit mineral oil has been seized in Co Louth in an operation targeting mineral oil laundering and tobacco tax fraud.

The seizure took place following a search at a residential premises in Dundalk.

The search was part of an intelligence-led operation by Revenue officials and gardaí.

Other items also seized in the search include two tonnes of bleaching earth, two vans containing items used for oil laundering, one bowser, 54kg of unstamped roll-your-own tobacco, 11 litres of counterfeit vodka and three industrial bulk containers of diesel sludge.

According to Revenue, fuel tank offences were also detected in two private motor vehicles at the residence, which resulted in a €2,000 penalty.

An investigation is under way and a man in his 50s is being questioned in connection to it.
