A man was tied up during an aggravated burglary at a house in Dundalk.

Two people were disturbed by the man, who is in his 20s, when they entered the house in the Ard Easmuinn area shortly after 7.30pm yesterday.

The tied him up and left the house 20 minutes later with a quantity of jewellery.

It is the third such incident in Dundalk in the past week, one at St Alphonsus Road and another at Blackrock in which a couple in their 80s were locked in a room and their house ransacked.

A car and a small quantity of cash were stolen and the couple were treated in hospital for shock.
