Two men in their 20s have died in separate road crashes in counties Monaghan and Westmeath.

In Monaghan, the single-vehicle crash happened at Lurgans in Carrickmacross just after midnight.

The man was the sole occupant of a car which crashed into a ditch. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road has been closed to traffic and diversions are in place.

In Westmeath, a motorcyclist died following a collision with three cars last night.

The 26-year-old man was injured in the collision which occurred at the Pigeons, Athlone, at around 8pm.

He was treated at the scene by emergency services but died a short time later.

The road is closed and local diversions are in place.
