Suspects for 40,348 crimes carried out in 2024 are currently out on bail, the Dáil has been told.
Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald raised the issue with the Taoiseach in the chamber this afternoon, describing the figures as "very, very shocking".
It is an increase of almost 5,000 since 2022, the figures, which were obtained by Sinn Féin, showed.
A total of 114,655 suspects implicated in crime were released on bail over the past three years, the figures showed.
"This is an issue that we have raised repeatedly with Government, and I'm raising it with you again this morning," Ms McDonald said.
Taoiseach Micheál Martin said there have been reforms of the bail laws and asked if Sinn Féin are proposing "wholescale internment of everybody who is a suspect".
"People are very intolerant of people who are awaiting trial," he added.
He acknowledged that the "figures are huge", but said they encompassed "a wide range" of activities and urged a focus on those who have been before the courts before.
"There are limits to what can be done, as I'm sure you would appreciate if you take the politics out of it," he told Ms McDonald.
The figures were released to Sinn Féin TD Matt Carthy in a parliamentary question response from Minister for Justice Jim O'Callaghan.
Mr Carthy said in a statement: "Of course many, if not most, of the crimes would be considered relatively minor. But some have been very serious, including those which have resulted in the loss of life.
"We need to get this right. The public will not tolerate a situation where dangerous criminals are repeatedly released on bail to commit further crimes."
