The Cabinet is expected to sign off tomorrow on a windfall tax to cap the profits of electricity companies.
This will apply to non-gas electricity generators only.
There will also be a solidarity contribution for companies active in fossil fuel production.
The windfall tax is expected to be introduced next month.
It has been estimated that the move could generate between €1bn and €2bn for the exchequer.
