Gardaí are carrying out a criminal investigation into the deaths of a mother and her infant son in Co Dublin

The bodies of Kate Donohoe and her seven-month-old son Vincent were found at their home in Beechfield Court in Clonee on Saturday afternoon.

Gardaí say that neither died of natural causes and they are not looking for anyone else at present.

Detectives are keeping an open mind on the case, but murder-suicide is a strong line of inquiry.

Post-mortem examinations have been carried out, but the results from toxicology tests are awaited.

The scene has been forensically examined and a number of items, including medicinal products, have been removed from the scene.

Ms Donohoe was well known in animal welfare circles and cared for dogs, particularly greyhounds.

Following the removal of the bodies of the mother and child, two dogs were taken from her home on Saturday night by animal welfare officers.

A Garda Liaison Officer has been appointed and gardaí say the incident is being treated as a family tragedy.

People who knew Ms Donohoe have remembered her on social media as a kind and caring person and have commiserated with her family and friends.
