Two teenagers from Dublin are over halfway through a charity walk from Coolock to the Cliffs of Moher, setting out from Birr, Co Offaly for another leg of the journey today.

Scott Ward and Derek O'Brien, both aged 19, say they are "on an adventure" as they raise funds for Abacas Kilbarrack Special School.

Scott’s cousin Lucas is a pupil there and he wants to raise "much-needed funds as a thank you for the amazing work they have done with Lucas."

The pair, who didn't train for the challenge, set off from Dublin at 4am on Sunday and aim to arrive at the cliffs at some stage on Friday.

Scott said they will walk for about 62 hours in total, as they trek from one side of the country to the other.

"The places we’re going through are cool, I’ve never been to Offaly or Kildare," Scott said.

Derek added that they are "doing very well" and that "after the first day was done, we knew we could do this."

They walked for 18 hours on Sunday, 12 hours on Monday and eight hours on Tuesday.

So far, they have raised over €14,000 on their GoFundMe page and they "couldn’t be happier" with the response.

"If you see us along the way give us a beep and more importantly give some much needed funds to a much needed cause," they said.
