An investigation is under way after a man died following a series of incidents in Tipperary and Kilkenny over the weekend.

Gardaí have appealed for information in relation to the incidents on Sunday night and the early hours of Monday morning.

The Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission is also investigating as the man interacted with gardaí over the course of the night.

The incidents began when gardaí were called to a house in the An Grianan estate in Killenaule, Co Tipperary, at 6.30pm on Sunday.

A man had suffered a significant arm injury at the house and was brought to hospital for treatment.

Gardaí said he later left the hospital and was found on the M8 motorway at 12.30am on Monday.

They brought him to Chapelfield Estate in Urlingford, Co Kilkenny, and left when they saw him at the front door of a house at 1am.

However, less than an hour later they received a report of a disturbance at the house in Chapelfield and emergency services responded to the scene.

The man was brought to St Luke's Hospital in Kilkenny where he later died.

GSOC said it was investigating as gardaí had interacted with the man on the motorway before bringing him to the house in Urlingford.

Gardaí in Thurles are keen to speak to anyone who attended the house in Killenaule on Sunday afternoon or who saw the man on the motorway near the Horse and Jockey junction just after midnight.

They also want to hear from anyone who was around the Chapelfield Estate in Urlingford between 1am and 3.30am on Monday.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Thurles Garda Station on 0504 25100 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.
