Two women have been arrested on suspicion of money laundering after a car was stopped on the M7 this afternoon.
Gardaí seized €50,000 in cash after the car was intercepted on the Dublin to Limerick motorway in Co Laois at around 2pm.
The women, aged in their 20s and 30s, are being detained at Portlaoise Garda Station.
They can be questioned for up to 24 hours.
The cash was seized as part of an intelligence-led operation involving Laois-based divisional roads policing and local garda units.
Gardaí are investigating if the money is connected to the murder of Robbie Lawlor, the Dublin gangland criminal who was shot dead in Belfast on Saturday morning.
The women are suspected of having links to Limerick criminal gangs and three men with similar links were arrested by the Police Service of Northern Ireland over the weekend.
Two men and a teenager are still being questioned at Musgrave Police Station in Belfast about the murder.
Another man was released unconditionally earlier today.
