A man in his 70s has been arrested in Cork in relation to sexual offences that are alleged to have happened over a 30-year period.

Gardaí say the investigation surrounds a number of complaints relating to an individual associated with Scouting Ireland.

The investigations into allegations of sexual offences surrounding Scouting Ireland are being co-ordinated by the Garda National Protective Services Bureau with individual cases being dealt with by local teams all over the country.

Three properties in Cork and a holiday residence in Kerry were also searched and documentation, electronic devices and computers were seized.

The man, who is a former scout leader, is being held at Togher Garda Station.

Gardaí say every complaint is being handled with professionalism and compassion.

They again appealed to any victims who have yet to come forward to contact them, either at their local garda station or through the Confidential Historical Abuse phone line on 1800 555 222.
