It is estimated that over the festive season we will produce 25% to 30% more waste than we normally do.

The remnants of millions of turkeys, tonnes of plastic packaging and miles of wrapping paper have to go somewhere.

Pauline McDonogh of said: "As we all know, it's a time when we do more entertaining, when we are buying more presents and when our bins fill up really quickly and we get very confused with what goes in which bin.

"All that extra waste is unnecessary, expensive and environmentally damaging."
