The Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors has confirmed it is aware of a garda investigation into an allegation against a member of its association.
The National Bureau of Criminal Investigation is investigating whether the garda engaged in outside security work, which gardaí are not permitted to do.
The investigation commenced after two other gardaí made protected disclosures.
The AGSI said in a statement tonight that it acted on legal advice that the person making the allegation should report it to An Garda Síochána.
It also says it understands the member of the association at the centre of the investigation has not been formally notified of any allegation or investigation.
The association also said it is important to allow due process take its course, and it will not be commenting further.
