A 24-year-old man has died after he was stabbed at a pub in Co Limerick last night.

The man has been named as Patrick O'Connor from the Thomondgate area of Limerick.

The incident occurred at Fitzgerald's pub on Sexton Street North in Limerick where Mr O'Connor received serious stab wounds.

He was taken to University Hospital Limerick where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

A post-mortem examination is due to take place tomorrow afternoon.

Gardaí have said the result of the post-mortem will determine the course of their investigation.

The scene has been preserved for a technical examination and the Garda Technical Bureau are at the scene.

No arrests have been made and investigations are continuing.
