A 19-year-old Co Limerick man who fell from an apartment balcony in Santa Ponsa in Majorca in the early hours of Tuesday has died in hospital.

Jack Walsh, who was from Askeaton in Limerick, had flown to the Spanish island last Monday to join friends, after he had completed a maths exam in the Leaving Certificate which he was repeating.

He fell from a balcony on Tuesday morning and was taken to hospital, where he had been on life support.

His parents and sisters were at his bedside when he died yesterday.

The family are well known in soccer circles in Askeaton and the local club Askeaton AFC has sent its condolences and support and prayers to the family.

Police in Majorca are investigating the circumstances of the incident.
