A man has been charged with assault causing harm after the stabbing of a man close to his home in Newcastle West in Limerick yesterday evening. 

The man, who is in his late 20s, is due to appear before Limerick District Court tomorrow morning. 

A 21-year-old man, who is from Eastern Europe, was critically injured in the incident, which happened at Maiden Street in the town at around 5pm yesterday evening. 

A knife was recovered at the scene, where a technical examination was carried out earlier today.
