Met Éireann has issued a status yellow weather alert, warning of snow and ice across the country.

Temperatures are set to fall to -3C or -4C in some places.

Met Éireann said that scattered showers are likely, and are expected to be most frequent in Ulster and Connacht.

The weather warning is valid from the early hours of Friday morning until 12pm on Saturday.

The Road Safety Authority has appealed to road users to check local weather and traffic conditions before setting out on a trip.
