Cigarettes with a retail value of €2.4m have been seized at Rosslare Europort by officers from Revenue’s Customs Service.
The five million cigarettes were seized after officers stopped a truck that had arrived on a ferry from Cherbourg in France.
The seizure came as a result of “risk profiling”, according to a statement from Revenue.
A Lithuanian national was interviewed by Revenue officials and investigations are ongoing.
The cigarettes were found in six tanks, each approximately 1.5m x 1.8m x 2.1m in size, which had been described on the ship manifest as thermal storage tanks.
