Fine Gael has added a second candidate, Julie O'Leary, to contest the general election in Cork North Central.

The 25-year-old barrister will run along with Junior Minister for European Affairs, Dara Murphy in the four-seat constituency.

The constituency also contains political heavy-hitters such as Labour's Minister of State Kathleen Lynch and Fianna Fáil's Director of Elections Billy Kelleher.

"Fine Gael should be commended for seeking out fresh and young female voices, while at the same time opening the door to new candidates," Ms O'Leary said.

"This also opens the door to a new conversation in Irish politics, where gender is equally and fairly represented on the election ticket."
