More than 260 schools around the country are to benefit from a €3 million Department of Education fund aimed at recognising and promoting innovation.

The money will be disbursed over the next three years to clusters of schools for projects under three headings - DEIS, Digital and STEM.

The schools all made successful applications under a new initiative called the Schools' Excellence Fund.

200 schools will share additional funding of €1 million for digital projects, 35 DEIS or disadvantaged schools will benefit from a €1.8 million fund, and around 30 schools will share €200,000 aimed at encouraging innovation in STEM areas.
