Watch: Africa Day celebrated in Dún Laoghaire park

Dún Laoghaire is one of the locations where Africa Day is being celebrated this year, with an event in the People's Park just beside the seafront and close to the town's harbour.

The celebration, organised by Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council, featured performers from Nigeria, South Africa, Lesotho, Ghana and Zimbabwe.

Pierot Ngadi, one of the MC's for the event, said Africa Day is a celebration of unity, of African culture and of Africans' contribution to the country.

A moment's silence was observed for the young Congolese man Yves Sakila who died on 19 May after security personnel detained him in connection with an alleged shoplifting incident.
