A woman has been arrested after a man was killed in a stabbing incident in Ballyfermot in Dublin in the early hours of this morning.
Emergency services were called to a flat at Claddagh Court shortly at 2.30am, where a man in his late 30s was found with an apparent stab wound.
He was treated at the scene, but was pronounced dead a short time later.
A woman in her late 40s was arrested and is being held at Clondalkin Garda Station.
It is understood that they were known to each other.
The scene remains sealed off and members of the Garda Technical Bureau are carrying out forensic examinations of the flat and the surrounding areas in the complex.
The man's body was removed by ambulance just before 11.30am.
Both the Coroner and the Office of the State Pathologist have been notified.
Claddagh Court is a housing complex for older people and run by Dublin City Council, with 32 apartments, accommodating people aged over 55.
It is unclear why the man and woman were at the complex last night. It is understood this is one line of inquiry that will form part of the investigation.
In a statement today, Dublin City Council said it was aware of the incident at its complex in Ballyfermot last night.
"An Garda Síochána is currently investigating the circumstances. Dublin City Council is not making any further comment at this time," it said.
Local Independent councillor Vincent Jackson said that some residents he spoke to were "absolutely shocked" by what happened.
"There's utter shock that something could happen in a place that's normally very tranquil," he said.
Cllr Jackson said that Claddagh Court was a model development and that it was highly sought after, adding that the community there was "strong".
