A man has been found dead following a house fire in Dublin.

Gardaí and firefighters attended the fire in the Belgrove Road area of Clontarf shortly before 1pm today.

A man in his 60s was pronounced dead at the scene.

The body was removed to the morgue where a postmortem will be conducted at a later date.

The fire was extinguished by Dublin Fire Brigade.

A firefighter sustained a soft tissue injury at the scene, but is expected to make a full recovery.

The scene was preserved for technical examination and investigations are ongoing.

"Our thoughts are with person's family, friends and neighbours at this difficult time," Dublin Fire Brigade said.

"Take the opportunity this weekend to check smoke alarms and make a home evacuation plan," it added.
