New bins have been installed to allow people to recycle 'on the go' as the amount of street litter in Dublin shows a sharp increase since Covid-19.
The 25 brightly coloured new bins are to encourage recycling of packaging being used by a rising number of people buying takeaway food and drinks.
Catering for plastic bottles and cans, they have been installed around the city centre with the greatest concentration on Grafton St and Henry St.
Lord Mayor Hazel Chu said Dublin City Council already recycles 17,000 tonnes of material each year but this initiative has been needed for some time.
It is being part implemented by the environmental charity Hubbub, which claims to have tripled recycling rates following a special campaign in Leeds, England.
