A 17-year-old male has died in a road collision in south Dublin.

The incident, involving a car and a van, happened on the N7 Naas Road southbound from Newlands Cross to Kingswood section at around 12.30am.

The young driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene. He was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

The occupants of the van - two men aged 45 and 36, and a nine-year-old boy - were taken to Tallaght Hospital.

Gardaí said their injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

The incident has been referred to the Garda Ombudsman Commission.

The section of road has now reopened after being closed earlier this morning by gardaí. 

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses and in particular to anyone with camera footage to make it available to them.
