Two people have been arrested following a high speed chase on the M50 in Dublin last night.

The incident unfolded after gardaí in Tallaght attempted to stop a car at Rossfield Avenue at around 10.20pm.

The car failed to stop and collided with two patrol cars, before being driven at speed in the direction of the M50.

A Garda narrowly avoided serious injury as the car left the scene.

A number of garda units, including the Air Support Unit, were called in and the car was brought to a controlled stop on the M50 a short time later.

The driver of the car, a man in his 20s, was arrested for suspected endangerment and other traffic offences and is being held at Tallaght Garda Station.

A woman in her 30s, who was a passenger in the car, is also being held for questioning.

The car had been fitted with false registration plates and has been seized for a forensic examination.
