Gardaí are investigating the death of a man in Dublin.

The man - who was in his late 30s and was homeless - was found unconscious at Foster Place in the city at around 7am this morning.

The emergency services were alerted by passing pedestrians and the man was taken to St James's Hospital where he passed away.

Gardaí say the results of a post mortem will determine the course of their investigation.

Anthony Flynn of Inner City Helping Homeless said the man was known to ICHH.

He said the man was a foreign national and had been homeless in Dublin for at least year.

Mr Flynn said temperatures have been dropping in recent nights and he has called on the Government to activate the Cold Weather Initiative for the homeless and rough sleepers.
