Processed tobacco with an estimated retail value of over €815,000 was seized by Revenue officers at Dublin Port yesterday.

According to Revenue, the seizure of the 1.4 tonnes of tobacco represented a loss to the Exchequer of around €721,000.

It comes following another seizure of 432,000 cigarettes, which originated from China, earlier this month.

Revenue says the cigarettes had a retail value of €234,000 and represented a loss to the Exchequer of approximately €203,000.

Investigations into both seizures are under way.
