A man in his 50s has been charged in connection with the seizure of heroin with an estimate value of €1 million.

Seven kilograms of heroin were discovered in searches in Meath and Dublin yesterday morning.

Two men in their 50s and one in his 40s were arrested in connection with the discovery.

The charged man is due to appear before Blanchardstown District Court tomorrow morning.

He was detained as part of a joint operation by the Garda's Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau and the UK's National Crime Agency into an international drugs importation network.

A man in his 40s was released and a file was sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The third man remains in garda custody.
