Iarnród Éireann has warned motorists to be aware of their load height, after dramatic CCTV footage showed a truck carrying machinery hitting a bridge in Dublin city.

The incident happened this afternoon on Amiens Street.

Iarnród Éireann warned that there could have been fatalities from such an incident.

"Had pedestrians, cyclists or motorists been on the other side of the road, people could have been killed at Amiens St this lunchtime. Know your load height for the safety of all," the train company tweeted.

Every time a vehicle hits, the bridge is structurally inspected to ensure that there is no damage to it.
