A man has appeared in court charged with the murder of his mother's partner.

Bryan Cassidy, 52, was attacked and stabbed outside the woman's home at Buirg an Rí in Balgaddy on Wednesday night.

Adam Nolan, 19, with an address at Buirg an Rí Walk in Balgaddy, Co Dublin, was remanded in custody for a week.

Sergeant Declan O’Sullivan told the court that Mr Nolan made no reply when charged with the murder.

Judge Deirdre Gearty recommended that he have access psychiatric and psychological treatment in custody and granted him free legal aid.

Mr Nolan was remanded in custody to appear again at Cloverhill District Court this day week.
