A senior garda officer has been suspended from duty.

The officer, a chief superintendent, has been under investigation for alleged bullying and harassment.

However, it is now understood that the investigation has broadened out into other areas and the Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission has been informed.

The suspension was authorised by Garda Commissioner Drew Harris.

The Garda Press Office this afternoon confirmed an officer has been suspended from duty and said no further information was available.
