Seven properties in Leinster have been searched by gardaí as part of an investigation into human trafficking.

Three premises in Kilkenny and four in Carlow, where it was suspected that brothels were being operated from, were searched.

Gardaí discovered evidence of prostitution, items were seized and the premises were closed down.

No arrests have been made.

The operation was carried out with the assistance of the Garda National Digital Intelligence Unit.

In a further operation today, 15 inspections were carried out at fast food outlets, restaurants and nail bars by garda immigration officers in the Kilkenny and Carlow districts.

One person was arrested for immigration offences in Carlow and appeared at Carlow District Court this afternoon.
