A man has been charged with the murder of a woman in Dublin ten days before Christmas last year.

Emma McCrory, a mother of two in her forties, was pronounced dead at her home on the Howth Road in Clontarf after emergency services were called to a fire there on the evening of 15 December 2022.

George Turner, who is 53 and with an address on Fairview Avenue in Fairview, appeared at Dublin District Court charged with her murder.

Detective Garda Cliff Singleton told Judge Gerard Jones that he charged Mr Turner at Clontarf Garda Station just after 7.30pm last night.

He said the accused made no reply when charged.

Defence Solicitor Tony Collier said he would not be making an application for bail as this is not possible for a murder charge in the District Court.

He requested a psychiatric assessment for his client, saying that he had a history of mental illness.

Judge Jones remanded Mr Turner in custody to appear at Cloverhill Court on Friday 24 March and approved an application for legal aid.
