A 40-year-old man has been before Dublin District Court charged with the murder of 49-year-old Michael Tormey in Ballyfermot earlier this month.

Christopher Devine from Convent Lawns in Ballyfermot was arrested at Ballyfermot Garda Station and charged with Mr Tormey's murder.

Dublin District Court heard he made no reply to the charge.

He was remanded in custody to Cloverhill District Court next Wednesday.

His solicitor Mark O'Sullivan asked Judge Brendan O'Reilly to direct his client be given all appropriate medical attention including psychiatric attention while in custody.

Mr Tormey, a father of three, was shot dead in the garden of his home on Thomond Road in Ballyfermot in the early hours of 9 January.

A 39-year-old woman, who was also arrested in relation to the shooting, was released without charge and a file was sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
